LITs will shadow counselors and younger campers, assist in the planning of daily activities, and help with the cooperation of the group. This program will give older campers the tools they need to become a better teammate and leader in their social circles.
CITs will learn leadership skills, communication strategies, and new games to use in a group setting. Time each day is spent covering topics such as child behavior, working as a team, facilitating activities, and being a responsible young adult. The weeks will be structured to allow progression, so attendance for both weeks is required. Once completed, CITs may have the opportunity to return as a volunteer junior counselor for the remainder of summer. Once 18, they will be able to apply for a counseling position at the YMCA.
